Pastor Van for Breeze May 2024

Don’t mess with moms.

Anyone who does not know this basic truth is going to end up in serious trouble.

A mom might be 5’1”, like my mother is.  But that is not her real size.  A mother is as big as her love.  So if you come after her kids, know that you have been warned.

In May we celebrate Mother’s Day.  It is a good time to remember that one of the loveliest descriptions of God in the Bible compares God to a mother hen protectively nestling chicks under her wings.  For instance, Psalm 91:4 says, “He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”

We serve a God who guards, who protects, who guides us gently among His feathers when the storms of life are raging and the foxes are seeking a way into the henhouse.

God is also as big as His love.  And his love is vast beyond measure.

            In Christ,

            Pastor Van

Spring Learning Series:  May 19, 26, June 2 at 5 p.m.

Please join us in the Red Door Chapel for three Sunday evenings starting on May 19 for our Spring Learning Series!  We will explore First Light & Eventide, a spiritual reflection journal through the lens of gratitude.  This is a very participatory study.  Let’s arrive ready to pray, to be transparent with God and ourselves, and to reflect on God’s goodness.

May is Missions Month!

In the month of May at Bostonia, we focus on international missions and our American Baptist global servants.  On May 26 we will hold a second offering, our World Missions Offering, in worship.  If there are parts of the world for which you would like to learn about Christian missions, please let Pastor Van know.  Blessings!

Wonderful Joy of the Lord Tea!

We had a beautiful time on the church lawn on April 27, eating lovely finger sandwiches and sharing scriptures about God’s loving presence in our lives. Thank you to all who prepared items, set up, and took part in this event!  May we always remember the beauty of God’s creation and that “the joy of the Lord is our strength.”

ABCOFLASH Youth and Young Adult Retreat Report

Our American Baptist region held its annual Youth and Young Adult Retreat April 19-21 at Camp Cedar Crest in Running Springs, CA.  The theme was “Be Real.”  We had a wonderful combined group attend from Bostonia Baptist and our sister church Iglesia Bautista Manantial de Vida.  Thanks to all leaders and participants!  We pray that God continues to work powerfully in their lives.
